Collar & Harness Sizing for Dachshunds and Small Breeds

Tobey is a mini dachshund. Oliver is not. We built our sizing after months of frustration with 'XS' collars that still swallowed Tobey's neck, so this guide is written from the perspective of dogs whose necks and chests don't follow standard proportions.

How to measure a small breed

Use a soft tape at the base of the neck (where the collar naturally sits) and add half an inch. For dachshunds and whippets, the neck is often narrower than the head, a martingale-adjacent design or a snug flat collar is safer than an adjustable webbing collar that can slip off.

Sizing for our collars

  • Mini dachshund, whippet puppy, chihuahua: XS
  • Standard dachshund, cavalier, mini poodle: S
  • Frenchie, beagle, corgi: M

Small-breed picks

The Toli collar runs true; the Bone-charm collar is our lightest option for tiny necks. If your dog pulls, size into the Toli harness, chest sizing is more forgiving than neck sizing and safer for long-backed breeds.
